Noémie Goudal’s works play with the blurry border between natural and artificial landscapes, and with photography’s own ambiguous role as both an immersive and simultaneously distancing tool. Disrupting the illusion of transparency of the medium, the artist reveals scenes of constructed environments, hybrid worlds where reality and images coexist. A kid moves through the folds of a photographic landscape. Leaves are spread on the floor all the way onto the printed image until the spatial boundary becomes hard to define. These new realities leave us immersed and in constant negotiation with our surroundings, always uncertain whether we are dealing with represented and simulated objects, or with the actual natural elements.
