Photographic Flux

From Camera Obscure to GAN – A Digital Reference Work

Fotomuseum Winterthur presents the digital platform Photographic Flux – a reference work for photographic processes and technical developments in photography as well as visual phenomena of all kinds – from the first methods for producing images right through to those used in the twenty-first century. The platform includes fifty texts on specific terminology, a glossary of one hundred terms, two explanatory videos on how photos circulate and are manipulated, and numerous illustrations and images. Photographic Flux uses these resources to show how, since its advent, the medium of photography has shaped our society and invites us to engage with the content in our own unique way.

The platform serves as a digital learning tool, supporting the educational activities of Fotomuseum Winterthur. While teaching institutions and staff can incorporate it into their classes, it is also available to anyone with an interest in and curiosity about photography and can be used as a reference work or as a way into a particular subject.
