From Print to Pixel

Since 2019, Fotomuseum Winterthur’s educational project From Print to Pixel is designed to foster competence in dealing with images and media. In a context framed by digital media and new advances in technology, the project opens the door on current developments in photography and discusses their impact on us as a society.

In collaboration with a range of experts, the project offers a varied programme examining the social, cultural, economic, political and technological mechanisms associated with the production, circulation and reception of images. A focus is on the challenges, opportunities and (activist) potential afforded by our interaction with networked images. From Print to Pixel discusses artistic, scientific and everyday practices in a spirit of openness and experimentation. The project helps participants to read and categorise images with a critical eye, encouraging them to reflect on the way they use media and to adopt an approach to this that is informed by creative autonomy. The underlying concept here is: Get the full picture!

Innovation Partner 2019 to 2022

From Print to Pixel was launched in 2019 as an initiative of Fotomuseum Winterthur and was made possible for the period from 2019 until 2022 by a grant from the Migros Pioneer Fund, part of the social commitment of the Migros Group.

Innovation Partners 2022 to 2024

The continuation and ongoing development of the project, under the title ‘Get the full picture’ was supported by Stiftung Mercator Schweiz and Volkart Stiftung. During the second project phase, the entirety of the above-mentioned educational formats (workshops for young people and teachers, teaching materials and articles) were integrated into Fotomuseum Winterthur’s permanent educational programme.

Innovation Partner 2025 to 2027

Thanks to the renewed support of Volkart Stiftung, all existing formats can be continued and further developed.
