Exhibition Opening Helen Levitt – City at Play

Join us on Friday, 23 October 2026, to celebrate the opening of our new exhibition Helen Levitt – City at Play.

Helen Levitt (1913–2009) is one of the defining voices of US-American photography in the 20th century. Over several decades, she observed life on the streets of New York, finding unexpected, poetic and often humorous moments in the everyday. With her distinctive photographs, Levitt played a defining role in the development of street photography. She is also regarded as one of the early pioneers of colour photography.

The comprehensive retrospective offers a first look at Levitt’s complete archive, which has only recently become accessible to the public. Alongside iconic works, the exhibition presents previously unpublished photographs and extensive archival material. A special evening and a chance to discover the full breadth of Helen Levitt’s work anew.
