The works of Urs Lüthi touch upon the rift that divides modern thought. No longer in the grip of the meta-narrative, we yearn for the healing of fragmentation. Lüthi’s pioneering photographs of the early 1970s show a beautiful and often androgynous youth who becomes a figure of projection. The obvious cross-gender aspect makes it all too easy to overlook the fact that Lüthi has styled himself as a proxy to confront our desires, histories and problems.
