1977 marks the year that the music, attitude, and aesthetic of punk established itself across continents as a cultural phenomenon. In analogy to the raw, immediate style of this young subculture, Pietro Mattioli portrayed the alternative scene in Zurich in 1977/78. His flash illuminates the youthful faces and the style vocabulary of the time. Mattioli’s portraits have since lost none of their relevance, proving how fashion has always served as a medium and articulation of identity for every youth culture.
