Kamilia Kard works with images in a constant fluid state and ever changing form. In our contemporary realities, immersed in a ubiquitous and endless stream of images, we cannot be sure of these pictures’ origins and transformations. Images are not merely a representation of an existing natural phenomenon. They can exist almost independently of the material world, but can also be physically materialized at any time. Playing with the ambiguity of our experience of images in a post-internet world, the artist works with photographs of the primordial and sublime natural landscapes from Iceland, reminiscent of the computer-generated environment of video games. What happens when we experience a place by first navigating its synthetic version? What is the role of simulations, 3D mapping and photographic textures? What happens when computational photographic documentation becomes complementary and a priori to the phenomenal world?

The work exists both as a physical image in the exhibition space and as an online project, which can be seen at rainbowdream.it or downloaded as an application.
