Politics and Artistic Expression: Paul Strand

Until March 15, Professor Anne McCauley will discuss the difficulty of reconciling politics and artistic expression, with a particular emphasis on the career of Paul Strand.

Anne McCauley is David H. McAlpin Professor of the History of Photography and Modern Art in the Department of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University. She has published extensively on the social history of photography, including A.A.E. Disdéri and the Carte de Visite Portrait Photograph (1985); Industrial Madness: Commercial Photography in Paris, 1848-1871 (1994); The Museum and the Photograph (co-authored with Mark Haworth-Booth, 1998); and Alfred Stieglitz and ‘The Steerage’ (co-authored with Jason Francisco, 2012). She is currently preparing a book on American modernist photography during World War I and is organizing an exhibition for the Princeton University Art Museum on Clarence H. White.
