Doris Gassert, curator of the exhibition, leads a personal tour of Paul Mpagi Sepuya – Focus. Desire. The tour offers insight into Sepuya’s practice and the development of the exhibition, highlighting how curatorial decisions bring the works into dialogue with one another.
Fotomuseum Winterthur presents the first solo exhibition in Switzerland by the US artist Paul Mpagi Sepuya. In his portraits and studio photographs, Sepuya blends sensual intimacy with visual precision. Drawing on intimate encounters with friends and a collaborative practice of image-making, he creates carefully constructed compositions that foreground a queer and Black subject position in photography.
The exhibition brings together early and recent bodies of work alongside materials from the artist’s personal archive.
