Artist Talk with Margret Hoppe

In a conversation with Nadine Wietlisbach, director of Fotomuseum Winterthur, photographer Margret Hoppe (b. 1981) gives an insight into her work and the series Bulgarische Denkmale, which is being shown as part of the exhibition A Show of Affection. Hoppe's series of works shows monuments, sculptures and murals that were originally commissioned by the Bulgarian Communist Party at various locations in the country and have since found their way into depots or have literally been pushed aside at their original locations. The artistic search for traces of history in architecture and landscape remains the focus of Hoppe's work to this day.

The event takes place in German.

Admission: CHF 12.– (for members and reduced CHF 10.–), plus admission to the exhibition

This event takes place in the framework of the exhibition A Show of Affection – Collection Constellation 1. Fotomuseum Winterthur is taking the opportunity presented by the institution’s thirtieth anniversary to examine its own collection, with a selection of artworks by 19 photographers and artists providing an insight into the museum’s collecting activities. The exhibition homes in on the collection’s idiosyncrasies, distinctive qualities and thematic focuses as well as the variety of different factors influencing its (progressive) development – while also scrutinising museum collecting practices per se.

Please note: Due to the renovation of Fotomuseum Winterthur, the exhibition is shown in the spaces of Fotostiftung Schweiz at Grüzenstrasse 45, where this event will take place as well.
