The conceptual artist John Baldessari worked with visual mass media since the late 1960s. Using cut-ups and paint, he combined and adapted found visual and textual materials, honing their narratives in his own ways. In his portfolio work Some Narrow Views (Either Tall or Wide) Baldessari selects rectangular or square formats into which are placed a single film still with specific words beneath, thereby opening up the images to new meanings and interpretations.
