For three decades Ari Marcopoulos has portrayed various currents in American sub-culture and youth culture. In Directory, a 1200-piece wall installation consisting of simple black and white photocopies, the individual photograph takes a back seat to the picture index. The photographer covers a wide range of subjects, including skateboarding, graffiti, and handguns made from Legos. In particular, the portraits of his son with his friends offer an intimate, timely view of American youth.
