Rondinone is on a quest for identity, interrogating the status of the artist within society and, more broadly, the sexual identity of the individual within a contemporary world in flux. In his installations, as in his photographs, Rondinone conjures up seductive and sensual realms with an undercurrent of loneliness and deep melancholy. In his protean output, Rondinone himself appears in his works in various guises (clown, singer, supermodel etc.).
