In his mostly site-specific projects, the British artist Simon Starling tells stories that connect ideas, places, and things with cultural and historical circumstances. In the process he creates (not always logical) contexts that allow him to reveal hidden relationships. His austere, formal vocabulary and his often fantastical ideas make allusions to 1960s Conceptual Art – in the work exhibited here to a performance by Robert Barry. By technically enlarging the grain of the print, Starling seems to want to make the ephemeral gas over Los Angeles visible.
