“About this Photo” Photography seems to have an unrelenting hold on Igor Savchenko. More than once he has put away his camera, only to take it up again, often years later. At first glance his “Commented Landscapes” are deceptively simple, black-and-white landscape photographs, often oriented toward a single, clear vanishing point; their captions describe and sometimes confuse the relationship between the subject matter, photograph, and the moment the picture was taken. A softly shimmering sky bathes the sparse, depopulated scenarios in an almost transcendental light.
