In the past decades, Bangalore’s Electronic City has flourished into a major information technology hub, hosting the offices of some of the most important IT companies. A gated area – rich, clean and distinctly western in its architectural style –, it stands in stark contrast to Bangalore’s everyday reality. The tall buildings, the urban infrastructure and lifestyle all incorporate the Californian tech dream: they hold the promise of a future of social and economic advancement linked to the business of networked communication technologies. Through digital distortions, by which the buildings, constructions and vehicles of Bangalore’s streets are stretched endlessly towards the sky, IOCOSE’s photo series literally translates this promise of elevation through technological progress, exposing its blatant artificiality and the tangible traces it leaves on the city and the mentality of the people.
