Saskia Groneberg
Plants seem to permeate the work of German artist Saskia Groneberg. In Office Plants (2012) – a hand-bound, 390-page book – she explores the plant-filled universe of people at work. Dedicated to the fragments of nature that office employees bring to their otherwise anonymous workplace, her archival documentation depicts plants growing ceiling-high, reaching behind radiators, and peeking through the blinds. The large-format book features 48 black and white photographs, a “herbarium” with color scans of collected plant cuttings identified only by their location, and handwritten texts by the office employees. The book, designed by the artist herself, evokes the spirit of old botanical albums and includes an index that allows the reader to find connections between the individual chapters.
