Jens Klein

With Dog Walks. Index of Everyday Conspiracies, Leipzig-based photographer Jens Klein has created a unique work series compiled from various images he discovered between 2009 and 2012 in the archives of the Stasi, the secret police of former East Germany. With designations such as “Mailbox,” “Amblers,” and “Moped drivers,” Klein’s series depict supposed opponents of the state, whom unseen Stasi collaborators photographed doing mundane activities such as going to a mailbox or walking the dog. The photographs are intentionally left uncommented, leaving the viewer to speculate about the possible motives of the surveillance.
