Mind the Gap: Tour and Talk with Ann Mbuti

On a tour of the exhibition with Nadine Wietlisbach, director of Fotomuseum Winterthur, the author Ann Mbuti talks about (lack of) representation, gaps and blank spaces. Using the exhibition as an example, she will show how gaps can be recognised and how they can be dealt with.

Mbuti (*1990) is a professor of process design and an independent writer in the fields of contemporary art and (pop) cultures. In 2022, her book Black Artists Now – Von El Anatsui bis Kara Walker was published. Her focus is on artistic positions and projects that have the potential for social change at their core. Currently she is exploring mythologies, oral history, science fiction and the fusion of fact and fiction.

The event takes place in German.

Admission: CHF 12.– (for members and reduced CHF 10.–), plus admission to the exhibition

This event takes place in the framework of the exhibition A Show of Affection – Collection Constellation 1. Fotomuseum Winterthur is taking the opportunity presented by the institution’s thirtieth anniversary to examine its own collection, with a selection of artworks by 19 photographers and artists providing an insight into the museum’s collecting activities. The exhibition homes in on the collection’s idiosyncrasies, distinctive qualities and thematic focuses as well as the variety of different factors influencing its (progressive) development – while also scrutinising museum collecting practices per se.

Please note: Due to the renovation of Fotomuseum Winterthur, the exhibition is shown in the spaces of Fotostiftung Schweiz at Grüzenstrasse 45, where this event will take place as well.
