Film Screening: Short Films by VALIE EXPORT

In a cooperation with Kino Cameo, a selection of VALIE EXPORT’s short films will be shown. These provide an insight into the cinematic work of the Austrian performance artist: the experimental film and video studies show how multilayered EXPORT has worked with moving images. With an introduction by Nadine Wietlisbach, director of Fotomuseum Winterthur.

The films are being presented as part of Kino Cameo’s series Körperbilder, which highlights the multifaceted nature of the cinematic examination of the body. The body is also central to EXPORT’s practice: many of her works deal with the body being viewed as female in its social regimentation and construction.

Tickets can be purchased on Kino Cameo’s website. The films will be shown in the original language with subtitles.

This event takes place in the framework of the exhibition VALIE EXPORT – The Photographs. It is the first show to focus on the photographic oeuvre of the artist VALIE EXPORT (b. 1940), whose at times provocative performances and experimental installations have been a source of controversy. The show examines EXPORT’s use of photography as a critical exploration of processes of depiction and representation. At the interface of film, video art, drawing and body art the photographs offer a new perspective on her creative oeuvre.
