Fotomuseum Winterthur as a Guest at Verzasca Foto Festival

This year, Fotomuseum Winterthur is presenting an exhibition project at Verzasca Foto Festival. The festival promotes emerging international photographers and champions visual arts in rural and peripheral areas. It takes place in an alpine valley in the canton of Ticino. With numerous indoor and outdoor exhibitions, it creates an intimate place that invites visitors to exchange ideas and broaden their horizon. With this year’s theme Crossed Roads, the festival explores the power of photography to provide a site of convergence and divergence between people, ideas, cultures and places.

Fotomuseum Winterthur is presenting Swiss-Vietnamese artist Thi My Lien Nguyen's series Three Grains of Rice and Some Gold at Casa Azul, the so-called House of Photography promoted by the festival. The series explores themes of loss, grief, and healing. The title refers to a farewell ritual that involves placing three grains of rice and gold paper in the mouth of the deceased before their journey to nirvana. At the centre of Nguyen's artistic practice lie questions of identity and belonging, which she explores through her Vietnamese-diasporic experience, embedding them in a larger social, cultural and political framework.

The Casa Azul exhibition space is open on weekends between 14:00 and 18:00.
