What kind of a landscape is an airport? The artists’ duo Fischli/Weiss first showed their photographic series Airports in 1989, ten years after their Wurstserie (Sausage series), which made them famous. A year later a photo book of the same title was published by Edition Patrick Frey, today a highly coveted collector’s item. Unpretentious views of various airport runways throughout the world show rigidly organized, melancholic non-places, dotted with planes idling between take-off and landing; on the edge grow disorder, nature, and a longing for what lies beyond, as horizons lie in wait.
