In her videos, Switzerland’s most internationally known artist presents a unique, trance-like vision, whose colorful subjectivity reflects the spirit of the times. Whether Pipilotti Rist scans bodies, flowers, ocean floors, or other surfaces and orifices with her camera, what ultimately results is a maelstrom of images – sometimes bouncy, elsewise flowing – that is strikingly anti-phallic. These colorful dream worlds are intermingled with dissonances: cacophonous song, smashing windows, falling women, blood, and other secretions.
