Redevelopment Project

Temporary Closure Due to Renovation

Fotomuseum Winterthur is realising its vision of a museum of the future: due to urgently needed renovation work, the institution is planning a new building and redevelopment project. The renovation phase will last from June 2023 to spring 2025, during which time the exhibition spaces at Grüzenstrasse 44 will remain closed. However, Fotomuseum Winterthur will go on offering a variety of events, workshops and digital encounters and for schools and groups numerous educational programmes – in the photo lab or in the area of image and media competence – will continue. Fotostiftung Schweiz will be open regularly throughout the renovation phase and will present a varied programme.

Fotostiftung Schweiz

Werner Bischof – Unseen Colour and Rosellina – Living for Photography

26.08.2023–28.01.2024

Fotostiftung Schweiz presents two exhibitions: Werner Bischof (1916–1954) gained international recognition at an early stage with his reportages and images in black-and-white aesthetics. The fact that Bischof also took colour pictures throughout his career has remained largely unexplored. An exhibition offers a journey through Bischof’s world of colour and showcases a mostly unknown area of his work. Rosellina Burri-Bischof (1925–1986), a founding member of Fotostiftung Schweiz and former director of Magnum Photos in Zurich, played a central role in the history of photography in Switzerland. Her commitment is honoured in an exhibition with photographs as well as documents and correspondence.

Paths in Flux: Images from the Diaspora

26.08.2023–28.01.2024

How are diasporic communities depicted in photography? What stories from the diaspora do photobooks tell? And how do images from the diaspora expand our view of society? The exhibition Paths in Flux: Images from the Diaspora focuses on photobooks that seek to use the medium of photography to capture and give visual expression to individual diasporic experiences and diasporic communities in Europe, North America and Asia.
