The fundamental political and social changes occurring in Japan in the 1960s were met by a group of photographers with images that were out of focus, rich in contrast, and devoted to everyday life. In order to publish their pictures, they founded the progressive photography magazine Provoke. One such photographer was Daido Moriyama, who has since roamed the streets with his camera like a ‘stray dog.’ His interest is captured by nearly everything that makes up social interaction: chaotic street scenes, relationships, fetish objects, and gaudy advertisements.
