"Hans-Peter Feldmann uses both his own photographs and recycled material for his art: amateur photos, printed photos, toys, department store art – everyday wares that are easily available to everyone. Taken out of their original context, thrown back upon their own resources and subsequently put into predetermined categories and presented, the photographs develop a double potential: to reveal their essential being and to reach out beyond the depicted image” (Thomas Weski)

This large-scale retrospective of the German “anti-photo-artist” is about the central European figure who has successfully infiltrated our visual culture with meticulous care, mischievous viewpoints and ironical, odd-angled mental processes with his series and sequences of banal photographs since the 1970s.

The exhibition was curated by Helena Tatay. Realisation in Winterthur: Urs Stahel. A collaboration with the Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona, the Centre national de la photographie, Paris, and the Ludwig Museum, Cologne.

Main sponsors: Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation, Ringier AG and ifa Institution for Foreign Affairs e.V., Stuttgart
