Guided tour with the artists: Dark Is the Night

The artists Bieke Depoorter, Georg Gatsas, Thembinkosi Hlatshwayo, Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca as well as Tobias Zielony, whose works are presented as part of Because the Night, invite the visitors to a guided tour through the exhibition. They provide insights into their working methods, their works and the stories behind those and answer questions from the audience.

The thematic exhibition Because the Night is dedicated to the motif of night, with all the promise that it holds. Photographic work complexes are used to present nightlife as a realm of freedom, an escapist paradise, a source of entertainment — but also as a safe space within which subcultures and (secret) identities are negotiated outside of the mainstream. Here, the documentation of a sociocultural environment and its political positioning plays just as much of a role as radically personal intimate perspectives.
