Henrik Spohler visualises the conformable, structured, co-ordinated mechanics and electronics of the new world of manufacturing, which has a deserted, almost sterile appearance. While equipment is being installed, this world is full of busy workers, but “before the whistle blows” everyone moves away from the production area as fast as they can, as if it was sixty seconds before the start of a Formula 1 race. What had previously looked like an oriental bazaar suddenly looks abandoned and technoid. When the signal is given for the production lines to start, when the flow of electricity and information begins, everyone disappears, as their work blends “invisibly” into the perfect, computer-generated functions of technological process.
